Tenmoku dyeing is a technique that expresses the beauty of Tenmoku tea bowls, which are designated as national treasure cultural properties, on kimono fabrics. Unlike traditional dyeing methods, the process involves soaking dye into powdered Kyoto Kitayama cedar to ‘extract’ the color and complete the dyeing. As a result, the fabric has a unique color and texture that can be enjoyed.

Please be sure to experience Tenmoku dyeing, which could only be done in workshops in Kyoto♪
